From the Headmaster

Ville de Marie Academy was started twenty-six years ago, as a grass roots effort by a group of parents to redeem Catholic Education as the Church envisions it. The Academy was built on Ignatian spirituality, a love for our Lord in the Eucharist and a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. The classical model was the frontier and the purpose was to enhance the understanding of virtue by teaching how Truth, Beauty and Goodness can always be traced back to the Creator.

Ville de Marie recognizes each individual student as a creation of God, placed on this earth to love and serve God in this world and the next. Each student brings his or her unique talents, strengths, gifts, and callings. It is the responsibility of the school to assist the parents in the spiritual and intellectual formation of their children. Our classical curriculum is Christ centered, joy filled, and focused on bringing the students into a better relationship with Christ and His Mother.

The Lower School Grades Kindergarten through Six emphasizes the development of a strong foundation in Phonics, Grammar, Writing, Math, and an appreciation of the Arts. Students learn Latin, practice public speaking, act out the lives of the saints, play with such joy and enthusiasm and visit our Lord in the Chapel.

Our Upper School grades Seven through Twelve stress the development of the mind and soul through the study of the “Great Books”, classical Latin, apologetic discussions and the truth and beauty of theological application in all subjects. Students in the Upper School defend their views, act out Shakespeare, and investigate the works of the greatest thinkers. A graduation requirement for seniors is to present a thesis covering the virtues and transcendentals of a pre-approved project. The Senior Thesis at Ville de Marie Academy is a carefully thought out written composition, publicly presented and defended.  It requires the classical trivium of a liberal arts education: grammar, logic, and rhetoric, with their attendant norms or measures, respectively: correctness, truth, and effective persuasion. Through the thesis, the Ville de Marie senior demonstrates ordered thinking, clear writing and eloquent discourse. Daily Mass, Latin Chant and weekly adoration form students in a love for Jesus and His Church.

The faculty are devoted Catholic men and women who understand that the primary purpose of a Catholic Education is to form the next generation to be the body of Christ. They take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. They are examples and challenge students to a closer relationship with Christ.

Ville de Marie Academy is a school that is truly Christ-Centered. If you have any questions or would like to visit the school, please contact us at any time.

Dominus Vobiscum,

Daniel Ethridge
